The sacrificial system inherited by the Jewish people had to do with belonging to God and experiencing His presence. The sin offering of a spotless young lamb was signifying purity as a satisfactory payment for the righteous judgment against sin. The lamb’s purity signified an absorption of sin’s curse and penalty of death in exchange for its life and righteousness . When Jesus arrived and John declared Him as “the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world”, it meant something quite significant because this wasn’t just a payment for a solitary sinful act, it was to be for the sin of the world, once for all time. The purity of this spotless lamb meant that His life-blood potent for forgiveness to be complete and in turn as many as believed in Him would receive eternal life.
